China 1948, directed by Fei Mu
The whole film is so and has nothing in common with the Our-Little-Town-movies from the 40s of the U.S.. Spring is here and cold from the small town of no more than ruins. Unlike in the marriage of Zhou Yuwen (Wei Wei) and Dai Liyan (Shi Yu - not in detail), there was never anything that could fall into ruins - and a second spring is not in sight. This is the film like a summer night in winter, stopped in motion, such as "Le Mépris" without the music by Georges Delerue.
